Logo design for a quintessentially English Hotel & Restaurant set in the heart of the Cotswolds.

This logo was created relatively early in my career, back when I would consider a logo design in isolation, rather than as a component of a larger visual identity or brand strategy. 

However I still enjoy the spirit of defiance the logo embodies, created almost directly as a reaction to the UK wide smoking ban in pubs the year before. I drew inspiration quite heavily from the classic New Yorker mascot, replacing the monocle with an Audrey Hepburn style cigarette holder & of course the Inimitable Basil Brush. This was then rendered in a cartoon style I had developed in years prior producing merchandising and marketing materials for children’s divisions of several major sports and apparel brands.
